The Diabolique Saint

The world will break your heart infinite times to the end of day. And that’s guaranteed.

And I can’t begin to explain why that happens. The craziness that creeps inside me or anybody else is beyond my reasoning ability.

But I guess I have learnt one thing: never lose hope.

If we try a little harder, we all have that one shot at a silver lining. Well and that’s how life is.

Pause, pause. That’s a relevant thing I wrote up there but by any chance if you are thinking this is some crazy old shit then hold on because there’s more to come.

This is about my life or anybody else’s. To avoid any circumstantial controversies let me talk about the person that resides in me.

As I see it this person is a saint.

Well he is not the typical happy go lucky fellow. Because that happy-go –lucky term is often exaggerated and most often seen in the fancy Bollywood movies where the happy charm is inadvertently incorporated at the end to let us commoners dwell in illusion that our life is no different from that man from the movie. Pheww…I had to get that out.

So let me talk about the person that we, or to be more precise, I, can relate to.

Having born and brought up abiding to the social norms of our culture I believe I am a very genuine person willing to do good for the society, family, friends, poor, government, and what not.

But this feel good factor is only a veil to hide the atrocious behavior of our devilish nature.

So where to start? Where this I-am-so-good notion did develop in our minds

Let us see. This saintly person I am talking of loves his family, he’s got some amazing friends, he loves with passion, he is truly committed to his work, he is fun, he is adorable and to be very honest he is purely delusional. Because he is not real. Because it’s in my mind. It’s in all our minds to project the good side of our selves so that we linger in this feel good limbo.

We all believe we are saints, true to the nature of every human being who thinks they are always right because we all have that alter ego inside. And that’s where the term delusional fits in so well.

Delusional: an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality.

So where did I go wrong? What should I term myself to be at peace with my real self? I always feel happy thinking I am doing everything alright, but am I?

I have wronged my family many a times, I have cheated my friends on numerous occasions, I have double dated with the love of my life, I have been rude, I have committed sins I can never forget so who am I??How can I be the saintly person I always think myself to be or am I plain diabolique??

Sometimes I smile wondering how some words hold such a powerful chord in the strings of our life.

Diabolique…the word means pure evil yet how beautiful it sounds.

There you go another saintly character to search for positives in the most devilish moments.

The answer lies right there if we delve a little deeper.

I am confused. I am being pragmatic and I wish to resolve the conflict within myself.

I am downright charming yet stupid, I am innocent yet have used it for my own selfish needs, I am soft spoken yet aggressive, elegant yet abrasive, ruthless yet a romantic.

To be honest it would be an uncanny battle of my own self if I go on pondering upon the true nature that I dwell in.

There is no pure saint. We all do good I agree but there lurks that irresistible urge to do evil inside each and one of us. We all have the devil inside, and I believe it has a slight edge over our instincts but hey we still live.

Following the social norms of our society, putting up a fake smile whenever we are sad, try to make someone laugh in their plight of sorrow, pull ourselves back from the dreads of failure, we win and show off cause we deserve to, every day we successfully put on the veil of good over bad, and we live and we are happy, it will always be an eternal struggle of one’s own self to do something good after numerous bads so that at the end of the day we can be at peace with ourselves. We do evil and we also do good. We all have that saint inside us which balances the ever looming devil.

I let go a mirth of laughter as I justify the first few lines of this article.’ HOPE’ it’s an extraordinary tool. We all hope that at the end of the day no matter how evil how satanic we all have been, we seek the saint inside us.

I have a few lines as I retort to peace on having come to a bemused conclusion:

“That which we are…we are…

With equal tempers and heroic hearts…

Made weak by time and fate…

But strong in will, to strive to seek to find and never to yield…”

And there you go. I came across my true self. Neither a pure saint nor a complete devil. We all have this person inside us whom we often chose to ignore, and it gives me peace to give it an acceptable name. “The Diabolique Saint”.

A full year………

This isn’t an intellectual post, a passage of fun witty ideas, or a wacky mind set on doing somersaults with words. This is a voice, of realization, that clouds my mind today, not only me, but to everyone who has scribbled something or the other here in this website, everyone who have been with us since the day we started this journey, since the day we were born to the world. Its not that we didn’t write at first, but our writings were meaningless pieces of paper which eventually found themselves in the dustbin. This became our spotlight, showed us to the world, made us visible in this entire sea of humanity. This made us stand out, this became our identity. This made us voice our thoughts, speak what would go unspoken, lost in the sands of time.

A full year has gone by, full 365 days, and now when I look back in time, i laugh to myself. This wasn’t a business idea, nor a planned social event. This occurred as a fleeting thought to the ways of procrastination in the struggling periods of education. Somehow, I know not how, out of the billion ideas that crossed our minds that day, - Read More -

we stuck to this, and here we are today. Maybe it was God who led us here, or maybe the brain cells just played a cheeky probability game. But nevertheless, we are happy with the outcome.

When we started, a year back, we were 4 crazy fellows, and now many crazier people have joined us in our bumpy ride. We don’t do this for any personal gain, or anything as such, but only because it gives a sense of contentment. That awesome feeling when someone likes what you have written, or a way better writer compliments you for your work is worth all the trouble.

We are all thankful to you, the readers, who appreciate our works and that’s what keeps us driving forward. Thank you, for being crazy enough, to bear us for the entire year. We will grow crazier in the years to come, we warn you that. Because if you’re not crazy enough, then life’s not worth living. There’s only one life to live!

So just enjoy the ride,

squandering your life instead,

Live, Like,  Love,

Be a Wacky Head! \m/

Marriage: Love? Arranged? Does it really matter??

Everyone, at some point of time, needs to settle down, making a family, having some kids and a loving life partner. Well, I’m speaking from a broader point of view, there may be a few exceptions where guys sworn to celibacy wont budge their vows till their last breath. But those cases are one in a million. So now returning back to the topic. Every sheet of a relationship is woven out of strands of trust, faith, love and responsibility. Without any of these the sheet tears apart at some point of time. Its said by our elders that ”Everything that happens is already jotted down by destiny, no one has a say about it.” They also say ”Couples are paired in heaven and united on earth”. If you take these statements seriously you will come to the same conclusion as I came to: “God doesn’t give a rat’s ass on the way you marry as long as you’re together.

Let me ask you something. Suppose you haven’t studied for your test well. You may fail also but the driver of your car makes you reach late for the test and you miss it. Whom would you blame? Even though you had chances of failing your full vengeance will be on the driver. If you had taken the test and then failed then you would be less angry as you knew it was your fault. This is why I feel love marriage is better, if it doesn’t work you can blame yourself not anyone else for pushing you in it.

Nothing in this world is absolute, no machine is fully efficient, no gas is ideal, no human is unflawed and no marriage is perfect. They say most divorces occur in love marriages. Yes, because - Read More -

when the married couple gets in an argument, the family helps only in sabotaging the relationship. But in an arranged marriage the whole family pours down essential morals on the couple that the couple forget what their argument was.

Love marriages symbolize freedom. You know the person beforehand, her likes, dislikes, everything. Your honeymoon doesn’t pass chit-chatting about each other’s hobbies but doing much better things instead ;) . You have your romantic moments throughout your life. You have the awesome feeling of proposals, rejection, the first date, the walks on the beach, the moments in the rain, the first kiss and the first craving sex. You would miss all of these in an arranged marriage. In it you have each other for granted, you will love her, you will live with her, you have no choice. Yes, there would be less fights, almost no threats of a divorce but there will be no certainty of time it will take to know each other well, less say, fall in love.

But remember, as long as you love each other, are faithful, and trust each other, nothing can tear you apart. It doesn’t matter how you marry if you are happy with your soul mate. May peace be with you :)

Love is all i want from you,

Care is all i need,

I want all your attention,

Anytime, anyhow, anywhere.

And Baby, I swear,

I will hold you forever,

Till the last breath escapes me,

Till the last sun sets,

Till death separates us,

And then it regrets.

Don’t worry, I wont leave you,

I will follow you on and on,

Only You’ll be in my heart,

Till infinity and beyond..

The Beginner’s guide to Web Hosting in 10 Steps

To make your site available in Worldwideweb, you need a place to host it.  This place is provided by the web hosting provider. The web hosting as a service incorporates the space where your website files are stored, the traffic to your website, and lots of extra services such as firewall protection, technical assistance, email services, FTP access, domain name registration etc. To make it clear, This post is all about shared hosting and small sites.

When me and few of my friends started this blog, all I did was just bought a domain. One of my friend helped me to host this on his VPS for free. I hosted there for free for many months, but eventually it turned out that he no longer needs that VPS. So I had to get a web hosting provider by my own. Being a noob in web hosting at that time and finally googling for hours, One of my friend told me about a web hosting place. I went up to there, registered, paid and got my hosting account information in 24 hours. And I was screwed.

I chose a plan that said:

- Unlimited Space
– Unlimited Bandwidth
– Unlimited no. of Domains
– Unlimited no of sub-domains
– Unlimited no of databases

However, although writing ’99.9% Uptime’ they forgot to mention ‘Unlimited Downtime’. They emphasized more on that 0.1% part. As I had paid 9$ for one month of shared hosting, and I had still 20 days remaining, all I did (or could do) was open infinite number of tickets on their customer panel. They replied to few, the rest went dead and many times invisible. Being frustrated I finally went on the quest of searching for another web host. I could not ask a refund from them as I didnt pay from Paypal. So eventually I got myself in search of another host. They were extremely cheap, 50GB bandwidth, 2 GB space, and 3 add-on domains, all for 9$, and that too the plan was for 3 months. I was happy, but then it started to suck. They lowered bandwidth to 13GB, space to 200MB, and a single domain only. Yes they sucked, and they were WebHostingIndia.  And after finally starving there for 3 months, I moved to AsmallOrange and we are now running perfect. Yes, though it costs 5$ per month, but I get what I paid for. No Downtime, fast hosting, fast response and everything that was mentioned in their website. Hence I decided to write a post for my fellow blogger friends who are interested in getting their own domain and host for blog. This Posts contains 10 steps, or points that might enable you to choose a web host properly.  Here it goes..

Choosing a Web Host

1) Analyze the type of  site you will start, a blog, a forum, a streaming site. Try to estimate the amount of visitors you will gain in a month. This will help you to catch the amount of Bandwidth and web space you need.

2) Reliability of the host: You need to make sure that the host is reliable, they don’t cheat or provide less features then mentioned in their page. Normally you can simply put up their name in google and do some basic research about them. Google will lead you to various links where the users might have reviewed them, or complain against them.  Sherlcok Homes was unlucky that he didn’t have google then.

3) Bandwidth (Data Transfer/ Traffic) : It is commonly defined as the amount of data transferred from your site (or the server you are hosting in) to the visitors visiting or browsing your site. Never trust hosts that say Unlimited Bandwidth for less costs. They too have to pay for bandwidth usage, and since they aren’t monks, they won’t simply silently pay for you. Always have a look on how much data transfer your host allows.  And if your plan says unlimited, do check their policies. For the Unlimited is just another point in the word limited. I will always suggest you to go for limited ones, as they normally are trust worthy.  Always do a survey on your usage for each month, and estimate what it might be next month. And then choose a plan that has at least 10GB more usage then your estimation. Make sure that you never pay for extra usage after your bandwidth is over.  Also its always wiser to prevent hotlinking of images from your site by blocking it in .htaccess file. It helps to save a lot of bandwidth.

4) Disk Space: Generally disk space is not much of a concern, your blog might not even go about more then 50MB. If your website is more of image based, or videos (ex: tutorials), it won’t be of much size. If you want to use it as a place for storing files, make sure about the maximum size of a file allowed. Also do watch out about the unlimited schemes like that of bandwidth.

5)  FTP,PHP,SSL,SSH,.htaccess, CronJobs: If you don’t know what these mean, I will recommend you to google, In case you want to run a business site, that includes monetary transactions, SSL is must. .htaccess will help you to setup permalinks, error pages, etc. FTP is used to transfer files, a better way over classic Cpanel. However generally shared hosts don’t allow SSH or root access, so in case you need it for your website, you can go for a VPS. Also th feature Cronjob is important as well, it will automatically perform functions for you at different intervals.

6) E-Mails:  E-Mails, as you know is one of the basic requirement for your website. it helps to gain popularity easily, as well as perform as auto-responder. You should check about the no. of email accounts allowed, and storage. It will look decent if the authors of your blog use a name@yourdomain.com rather then own emails.

7) No. of Domains: I will personally recommend you to  get a host that supports multiple domains, rather then one. You can simply team up with one of your friend to get a better web host and host multiple sites. However, you should always grab a look on how much $ does the packages differ by in relation to additional domains.

8) Price: The most important part of selecting a web host.  Are you getting services perfectly for which you are paying? Is the host charging extra money for a service that you don’t need? Are there better packages which you can get for the same amount of money? A expensive hosting is just like a hot girl, Its not always true that an expensive service is always the best, there always something better.

9) Duration of Payment:  There are various payment plans available such as monthly, half yearly, yearly. You shall always find that their are certain discounts on the longer subscription plans. But, sometimes it maybe a trap. For example, if you have bought a host for a year, and after using 3 months they started giving problems, and don’t respond to you, You might know that you are screwed. So its always better to choose a short duration for a longer time. For example you can use the monthly payment system for 3 months, and then get a subscription. Prevention is better than Cure, nuff said.

10) Onshore  or Offshore hosting: Onshore is hosting located in your country (in most cases on these forums, it refers to US-based hosting providers) and offshore is hosting located in a different country. Most times, people look for offshore hosting providers if they are hosting content that may not be legal in their home country. In case you want to host just a simple blog, you can use Onshore hosting. However if you are planning to use Nulled Scipts, its always better to go for Off-Shore hosting. Its less risky, and the probability that you will get piracy related notices are less.

Extra: Since nearly all the webhosts provide cPanel these days, I thought it would be futile to write about it.  Also you must check about their customer service, helpdesk and time taken to clear tickets. The response time is much needed at certain situations.

End Notes: To mention at the last, their exists nothing such as perfect host. their always exists better, and it always will. It depends upon you on how to find it. Hopefully this post will help you to gain idea about what really a webhost is, and how to get one that fulfills your needs. If you have any doubts, feel free to ask in comments. :)
